Funky drew inspiration from the profound ideas of Ernst Haeckel, a renowned zoologist, naturalist, philosopher, and artist. Haeckel’s philosophy, beautifully encapsulated in the documentary “Proteus” (2004), emphasizes the connection between individual organisms and their evolutionary development. He believed that each era has its own image of the world, reflecting the vision of its time and its creators. Part of global tourism is the reference to mass production and commercialization of local traditions and customs. A significant example in this context is the labeling of a set of (industrially produced) tea glasses as ‘etnik’ (ethnic). While this word is intended to connect with and preserve the traditional culture of tea drinking, it also appeals to the global souvenir-seeking visitor –a similar mechanism can be seen in contemporary art from the so-called peripheries.

This work showcases the floor plans and facade views of the arcade typologies drawn by Behruz and Altug Cinici and designed within the context of the METU campus. It strives to concretize the perception of rhythm and order by systematically examining the unique canonical types that govern each system.
