“Canon” refers to a set of organizing principles or rules that govern the design and arrangement of architectural elements within a given system or typology. It establishes a framework that guides the spatial organization, proportions, and relationships between different components. This work showcases the floor plans and facade views of the arcade typologies drawn by Behruz and Altug Cinici and designed within the context of the METU campus. It strives to concretize the perception of rhythm and order by systematically examining the unique canonical types that govern each system. The featured arcades represent a diverse array of structures, crafted to complement the campus’s overall aesthetic vision. By presenting detailed floor plans and captivating fa9ade views, “Canon4” offers a sincere exploration into the meticulous craftsmanship and spatial organization intrinsic to each arcade typology.
The title of the exhibition is both a statement and a proposition. The boundary between the two disciplines Architecture and Art has always been blurred. The goal of this exhibition is neither to show the complex history of this transdisciplinary relationship nor to question the existence of disciplinary distinctions. The subject of the exhibition is the Architecture of METU Campus which was designed by Altug and Behruz Çinici and constructed between the years 1962-1970. The exhibition has been prepared within the scope of the ARCH524 graduate course, which is compiled in order to explore the different representation tools of architecture and to bring the possibilities they offer to a creative platform. Students use different media to express their ideas and question the limits of the representation techniques of architects. Keywords such as abstraction, description and interpretation are examined to increase creativity in architectural production and communication.
